If we can’t change the world, then perhaps we can change ourselves. At Southwest Parkinson’s Fitness, we strive to make the world a safer, more navigable and welcoming place for people with Parkinson’s disease(PD). Our focus is on fitness.

At SWPDFit, differences are left at the door. Participants become a community that knows in helping others, we too are helped. In short, at SWPDFit, we've got each others backs.

Scientific inquiry suggests that  exercise  induced Brain Derived Neuotrophin (BDNF) is a possible link between rigorous physical activity and slowing the symptom progression of PD. By acting upon dopaminergic (dopamine producing) brain cells, BDNF is implicated to play an important role in neurogenesis and  Neuroplasticity.

At SWPDFit our pledge is to emphasize those fitness modalities that are evidence based as being robust combatants against PD. That said, no two cases of PD are alike. In fact, there’s a saying in the Parkinson’s community “After you’ve seen one case of PD, you’ve seen one case of PD.” We strive to accommodate the full range of symptoms and abilities among our members with the help of a large group of SUU Utah Health Scholar volunteers and certified coaches. Forced intensity exercise is no stroll in the park. It’s hard. But the good news is that your only challenger is your own best self.
